There are many great RPG PC games available online. For the murder mystery fan with a craving for playing the detective the computer adaptations of Agatha Christie's novels is an excellent way to practice your armchair sleuthing skills. In this article you'll find details of some great examples of the mystery detective RPG genre.
In both the Murder on the Orient Express and And Then There Were None RPG PC games, the protagonist is a new character created especially for these games. Whilst in the original Agatha Christie stories parts of the narrative didn't always include the main character, the game developers have designed these 2 RPG PC games with the role-player in mind and have included new characters in each of these adaptations. This gives the games a central role to play.
Sleeper Armchair
Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express is set on the famous luxury train. As the new character, Antoinette you work alongside the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot to investigate the murder committed on this infamous train. All the passengers very soon become possible suspects and with hints and tips from your mentor Poirot you must use your little grey cells to uncover clues and put your sleuthing skills to work to catch the killer. Unlike the original story Hercule Poirot is injured so that he can't move from his sleeper carriage, and this allows you to take on the role of the main detective, by collecting clues, interviewing suspects and piecing together the information to solve the puzzles of who and how the murder was committed.
Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None is a thriller about ten strangers who are invited to a luxury mansion on a remote island. Through a phonograph recording made by their mysterious host they are each accused of murder and he proceeds to explain that he is going to exact justice upon them. One by one, the ten people are reduced through an ingenious unseen killer. As the 11th character also stranded on the island, you are forced to use your detective skills to find out the murderer. The new role you play in And Then There Were None game is the ferryman Patrick Narracott. In your role as independent observer you must play the detective. This includes eavesdropping on conversations, collecting objects and discovering clues to help you find the murderer. You also have the additional tension of knowing that everyone on the island is both potential murder and victim with the island's inhabitants being picked off one by one.
Red herrings and closed areas (which in these examples are the trapped Orient Express train and an isolated island cut off from the mainland) are both clever devices used by Agatha Christie in her classic stories. But they are also very useful devices in these downloadable computer games. As with all RPG PC games, they are not a test of your physical or combat skill but rather a tactical challenge which involve other non-action game play such as collecting and manipulating objects, problem solving and deciphering brainteasers. Both these games have great appeal for both role-playing and murder mystery game fans.
